Badael is a rights-based organization founded in 2013 with a mission to foster transformative justice as the basis of a genuine and sustainable peace in Syria. Championing locally owned alternatives, we endeavor to buttress the scope and impact of inclusive grassroots civic action and foment the development of holistic truth and understanding within and around the Syrian context.
Summary of the consultancy:
As part of the project Women and Youth Leading Justice-Based Reconciliation, Badael will facilitate 15 Youth Dialogue Circles across four regions in Syria. These circles aim to bring together young Syrian women and men from diverse backgrounds to explore themes such as identity, justice, belonging, and civic engagement. The Youth Dialogue Design Expert will play a key role in developing a participatory, context-sensitive, and inclusive dialogue format and provide coaching support to Badael’s facilitators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design the methodology and format for Youth Dialogue Circles , (8 session plans per circle), structured around key themes such as:
- Identity and belonging
- Justice and reconciliation
- Safety and trust building
- Ensure all dialogue materials and methods are sensitive to trauma, inclusive of diverse identities, and promote safe, non-performative engagement.
- Provide tools and guidelines to ensure safe space creation, participant well-being, and group cohesion.
- Offer ongoing coaching and mentorship to Badael’s youth dialogue facilitators, including, feedback sessions, and problem-solving support.
- Contribute to learning by documenting lessons and recommending adaptations for future youth dialogue processes.
Deliverables and timeline:
- A comprehensive Youth Dialogue Circles Facilitation Guide including session plans ( outline and creative tools), theoretical framework and facilitation principles and ethical guidance (July 2025)
- A coaching and mentoring plan with a minimum of four tailored support sessions for Badael facilitators across regions. (July- Oct 2025)
- A final reflection and learning report, including practical recommendations for scaling or sustaining youth dialogue circles in other settings. (Nov 2025)
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Social Sciences, Youth Development, or a related field.
- Proven track record in designing and facilitating youth-focused dialogue.
- Proven experience using creative, participatory, and trauma-sensitive methods in youth engagement.
- Deep understanding of youth dynamics in Syria, including issues of identity, exclusion, and resilience.
- Strong coaching and mentorship skills, particularly for emerging facilitators.
- Fluency in Arabic required and English preferred.
