Please join us at the webinar – “What Can Humanitarians Learn from the Response to Somalia’s Worst Drought in Four Decades?” – on Tuesday, 29 April, 9:00-10:00am EST (15:00 CEST/16:00 EAT). Please register to attend here.
Why join?
The Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluation (IAHE) is a comprehensive, system-wide review of Somalia’s 2021-2024 drought response. It shows how coordinated action averted famine and saved tens—if not hundreds—of thousands of lives and describes the challenges faced in preventing the erosion of resilience and ensuring accountability to affected people. Drawing on insights from the IAHE, panelists will explore the successes and challenges of the humanitarian response in Somalia and ongoing efforts to enhance its effectiveness. The panelists will reflect on the learning from the response about needed changes to the broader humanitarian system, discussing how the lessons from this evaluation resonate far beyond Somalia and into the Humanitarian Reset discussion on how to deliver lighter, more devolved, and higher impact responses in today’s tight funding landscape.
What to expect?
· Findings + conclusions from the IAHE presented by Julia Steets, IAHE Team Leader and Director of the Global Public Policy Institute
· Panel conversation – “What worked and what must change?” with George Conway, DSRSG/RC/HC Somalia, and Nimo Hassan, Director, Somali NGO Consortium
· Moderated by Ali Buzurukov, Chair, IAHE Steering Group
We look forward to your participation!
