The Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) is a coalition of 14 NGOs working in the search of durable solutions in East Africa. ReDSS Secretariat is hosted by DRC and based in Nairobi with a country unit in Somalia and Ethiopia. ReDSS is an interagency coordination and information hub that focuses on research and knowledge management, program support, capacity development, learning, and policy influencing. Overall purpose of the role:

The ReDSS Kenya Policy Coordinator will be responsible to implement the advocacy and policy strategy at national and local levels, working with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure sustainable solutions for refugees and hosts in Kenya. S/he will work with the Kenya Manager as necessary to support the overall development of ReDSS’ work in Kenya, including representing ReDSS members in relevant forums and coordination platforms.

Responsibilities :

The ReDSS Kenya Policy Coordinator will

  • Implement and monitor ReDSS Kenya advocacy strategies at national and county levels and ensure frequent updates based on changing dynamics
  • Monitor and analyze relevant legislation and policy changes, providing timely analysis and recommendations to ReDSS members and partners
  • Build strong working relationships with county authorities and other key stakeholders, in displacement affected Counties in Kenya
  • Strengthen capacities of local authorities and humanitarian and development stakeholder to cooperate in developing integrated approaches for displaced and host communities (including through durable solutions and area-based approaches trainings etc.)
  • In close coordination with the ReDSS Learning Specialist, support cross learning and peer to peer exchanges between government authorities in displacement affected Counties, particularly Garissa, Turkana and Nairobi Counties.
  • Support the ReDSS + structure and meaningful partnerships with local networks and organizations based on trust, respect and joint accountability
  • Ensure that ReDSS research work is having the maximum impact on current policy and programming in relation to solutions for refugees in Kenya
  • Lead active engagement with Refugee Led Organizations and Refugee leadership to ensure that the voices, needs, and rights of displacement affected communities are prioritized in policy processes
  • Lead initiatives at both national and local levels to ensure local policy planning processes are informed by the communities they serve
  • Work with ReDSS Regional Solutions Coordinator to implement ReDSS framework for accountability in order to align efforts and document best practices across ReDSS Kenya projects
  • Analyze data and feedback on community engagement to identify trends and areas for improvement, reporting findings to ReDSS members and partners
  • Support project management tasks liaising with various project partners to ensure delivery of the ReDSS Kenya workplan
  • Support ReDSS Kenya Manager with ensuring that ReDSS’ work in Kenya complies with DRC’s procedures and system

Experience and Technical comptencies (included year of experience)

  • University degree in Law, political science or international relations.
  • Masters in related field an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar positions involving policy coordination, evidence building and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of the socio-economic and political dynamics of the region; more specifically on displacement trends with a demonstrated ability to manage politically sensitive contexts
  • Experience of working with a wide range of national and international partners in implementing multi-stakeholder initiatives, ideally in a management, coordination or representational role
  • Solid experience in capacity development of a wide range of actors including adult learning, mentoring and coaching, training of trainers and impact monitoring of capacity development activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization
  • Excellent coordination, inter-personal facilitation and communication skills to build trusted relationships with a wide array of humanitarian and development partners, donors, Government agencies, etc.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills with proven experience in producing high quality protection research and policy briefs with ability to present complex information in a simple and accessible manner
  • Strong experience in translating evidence and research into programming and policy guidance
  • Solid experience in capacity development of a wide range of actors including adult learning, mentoring and coaching, training of trainers and impact monitoring of capacity development activities
  • Good IT command, close familiarity with the maintenance and management of template-style websites and experience of applying ICT (information communications technology) to knowledge management
  • Flexibility, proactive engagement, ability to work under pressure and to demonstrate high tolerance for change, complexity and unpredictability

What we offer

Contract: 1 Year Contract with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.

Non – Management Band/ G.

Salary: National candidates, starting point of base salary is KES/month 337,500

Availability: 15th December 2024.
