Protection of Civilians and International Legal Framework course is a module of the REACT program, a five-week training course focused on peacebuilding and conflict prevention
This course aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the responsibilities of various humanitarian, development, and peacekeeping actors in achieving protection outcomes. These outcomes focus on reducing risks and vulnerabilities while strengthening the capacities of affected populations to cope with them. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of strategies to promote humanitarian access and deliver protection to the most vulnerable, including women and children in armed conflict.
They will also learn about the various legal frameworks designed to protect vulnerable populations in situations of armed conflict and beyond, including international human rights law, international humanitarian law and refugee law. The course will also examine existing mechanisms for monitoring and accountability within the framework of transitional justice, the UN mandate on Children and Armed Conflict, and the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda
By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand the different approaches of humanitarian, development and peacekeeping actors to protect civilians.
The course is taught by professionals working with different humanitarian actors such as the ICRC and UNHCR on the protection of civilians, academics and legal staff from the International Criminal Court.
