About BADAEL:

Badael is a rights-based organization founded in 2013 with a mission to foster transformative justice as the basis of a genuine and sustainable peace in Syria. Championing locally owned alternatives, we endeavor to buttress the scope and impact of inclusive grassroots civic action and foment the development of holistic truth and understanding within and around the Syrian context.

Summary of the consultancy:

Badael is facilitating thematic think spaces and a strategy workshop on justice-based reconciliation with women-led groups, women technocrats, and grassroots leaders to co-develop strategies for justice-based reconciliation in Syria. The expert will support the design of the think spaces and the strategy workshop that will follow the completion of the think spaces, and will also mentor and coach Badael’s facilitators throughout the implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Co-design and structure 3 thematic think spaces on justice-based reconciliation with Badael’s team, potential topics are :
  1. Reimagining inclusive reconciliation frameworks
  2. Justice, accountability, and governance
  3. Community-level healing and relational justice
• Lead the design of a two-day Collective Justice Based Reconciliation Strategy Design Workshop,
• Provide mentorship and coaching to Badael facilitators.

Deliverables:

1. A detailed facilitation guide for the thematic think spaces including session outlines, methodologies, and guiding questions. (July 2025)
2. A designed agenda and facilitation guide for the two-day Collective Strategy Design Workshop**. (Sep- 2025)**
3. Coaching and mentoring with Badael facilitators and reflections following think spaces facilitations. (July – Oct 2025)
4. Inputs into a final reconciliation strategy outcome, developed in collaboration with workshop participants.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, or a related field.
• Proven track record in peacebuilding, transitional justice, or reconciliation in conflict or post-conflict settings.
• Proven experience in designing and facilitating think spaces and strategy workshops, especially with women-led or grassroots organizations.
• Demonstrated understanding of feminist approaches to peacebuilding and reconciliation.
• Deep knowledge of justice-based reconciliation frameworks, including community healing, accountability, and inclusive governance.
• Strong facilitation and training skills, with experience guiding discussions in complex, politically sensitive environments.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible tools and strategies.
• Excellent knowledge of the Syrian context; experience working in Syria is required.
• Fluency in Arabic and English required.
