Position Summary
Compassionate Carbon Tanzania Ltd is a mission-driven organization launched by Compassionate Carbon LLC and Eden: People+Planet (Eden). Specializing in developing and implementing landscape-scale forest carbon projects through Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), we collaborate with local communities to restore landscapes, create jobs, protect ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.
Our projects integrate nature-based solutions to help meet global emissions targets while ensuring community ownership and long-term sustainability. The Rubeho Mountains Carbon Project, a significant initiative in Tanzania, focuses on native forest restoration and community-based conservation efforts.
The Administration, Operations, and Finance Manager is responsible for operational, administrative, and financial functions, ensuring the efficient and compliant running of Compassionate Carbon’s operations in Tanzania. The Manager will oversee business processes including financial planning, human resources, risk management, and compliance with Tanzanian regulations and the organization’s global standards, and is pivotal in supporting Compassionate Carbon’s growth and ensuring sustainability through sound financial and operational management.
Essential Responsibilities
- Functional Leadership
- Support the Country Director in strategic decisions related to operations and business development in Tanzania.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and teamwork within the Tanzania office.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that align with organizational standards, objectives, and values.
- Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring sufficient workflows and timely achievement of key milestones.
- Develop and maintain operational systems and processes to support a distributed workforce.
- Manage field deployment of resources and ensure proper logistical support for project activities.
- Financial Management
- In collaboration with International Finance Resources Manager, manage financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for Compassionate Carbon Tanzania.
- Establish, oversee, and administrate accounting and finance procedures in alignment with organizational standards, as well as local and international regulations and best practices, to ensure accurate financial records and reporting.
- Administer funds in line with approved budgets and ensure timely financial reporting.
- Manage procurement processes, including vendor relationships and contract negotiations.
- Human Resources
- Oversee management of HR functions, including recruitment, employment procedures, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, and policy implementation,
- Ensure HR practices support organizational objectives and promote a healthy, safe, and thriving workplace culture that aligns with the values, vision, and mission.
- Contextualize and implement HR policies and processes that comply with Tanzanian labor laws and align with organizational standards and templates.
- Risk Management + Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Tanzanian labor laws, tax regulations, international guidelines, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring the sustainability of the organization.
- Ensure that Compassionate Carbon Tanzania complies with all regulatory requirements, including taxation, business licensing, and environmental standards.
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage for all organizational assets and activities.
- Manage organizational records and ensure data privacy and security.
- Project Support
- Support project teams with budgeting, financial reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Provide financial and operational inputs for funding proposals and investor reports.
- Ensure that financial management processes support the successful implementation of project activities.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to team members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. This includes overseeing performance management, problem-solving, addressing challenges proactively, and promoting open communication within the team, and may include hiring and employment-related decision-making.
- Manage and oversee the department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, monitoring expenditures, and adjusting as needed to meet financial objectives while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education + Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA, CPA(T), or ACCA qualification with practical, hands-on accounting experience required.
- At least 7 years of experience in operations, administration, or finance management.
- Experience working with the private sector, international organizations, NGOs, or social enterprises.
- Knowledge and practical experience in accounting principles and practices, with a proven track record of managing financial systems and budgets.
- Demonstrated experience in human resource management.

- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify develop and implement solutions and correct errors.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Proficiency in a variety of software and tools including MS Office suite as well as Quickbooks or Netsuite; ability and willingness to learn new systems and tools.
Work Environment + Physical Requirements
- Position is primarily office-based and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer, as role involves digital communication and document management.
- Travel within Tanzania, internationally, or field visits to remote project sites may be required.
- Extended or irregular work hours may be required during critical project phases or deadlines.
- May involve travel within Tanzania and internationally to represent Compassionate Carbon at relevant forums
- Legal authorization to live and work in Tanzania, and ability to travel internationally, when required.
