Base Location: Nairobi 100%

Background
Islamic Relief (IR) is an international non-governmental humanitarian organization registered in the United Kingdom (Registration No. 328158) and in Kenya with the NGO Coordination Board (Registration No. OP.218/051/2004/0374/3386). Committed to alleviating poverty and ending the suffering of the world’s most vulnerable populations, Islamic Relief serves all people regardless of race, religion, or gender. The organization promotes sustainable economic and social development by partnering with local communities through a range of relief and development programs. These programs include water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health and nutrition, livelihoods support, emergency response, climate change mitigation, and support for orphans. Islamic Relief began its operations in Kenya in 1993 and has since established a fully functional country office in Nairobi, along with field offices in Garissa, Kajiado, Kilifi, Lamu, Mandera, Tana River, and Wajir counties.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainability and expand impact, Islamic Relief Kenya is in the process of establishing a local Fundraising Unit within its country office. This initiative aims to diversify funding sources, ensure long-term viability, and bolster the delivery of humanitarian and development programs across the country. In line with this strategic direction, Islamic Relief Kenya is seeking a motivated, proactive, and dedicated individual to fill this position:

Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative, results-oriented Marketing Officer to oversee our content and digital marketing campaigns and online presence. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in content development, managing digital channels, analyzing campaign performance, and developing strategies to grow engagement, conversions, and brand visibility

Key Responsibilities:
1. Digital Strategy & Campaign Management
• Support the Partnership Lead in organizing of marketing and fundraising campaigns and events, ensuring smooth execution and strong stakeholder engagement.
• Develop, execute, and optimize a digital & content marketing strategy to achieve organizational goals.
• Plan and execute digital fundraising campaigns across different channels such as radio, TV and online platforms, aligning with the overall marketing and business objectives, driving measurable results.
• Regular engagement with the Global Family Development (GFD) team to facilitate and coordinate the production of the required marketing materials
• Develop creative and targeted ad campaigns that resonate with the target audience and drive customer acquisition.
• Conduct audience research to define buyer personas and understand the challenges and needs of target groups.
• Collaborate with fundraising and programme teams to align marketing strategies and produce content that, educates the target audience, addresses the pain points and drive leads.
• Set clear KPIs for campaigns and track performance to ensure goals are met, adjusting strategies based on analytics.
• Develop an editorial calendar to organize content creation and ensure timely delivery.
• Oversee the production of required localised marketing materials
• Produce multimedia content such as videos, infographics, and podcasts for digital platforms, including the website and social media channels
• Ensure all content is aligned with the company’s tone of voice, brand identity, and key messaging.

2. Social Media Marketing, Analytics, and Reporting

– Develop and implement social media strategy across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
– Design and execute social media campaigns across multiple platforms, ensuring content is relevant and timely to support fundraising initiatives.
– Develop and maintain a social media content calendar.
– Create and manage social media content that engages the audience and drives traffic to key organisation channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)
– Track social media trends, metrics, and adjust content strategies to maximize engagement and brand visibility.
– Report on KPIs and ROI of digital campaigns weekly/monthly.

3. Websites Management

– Create and manage engaging, high-quality written content, including blog posts, articles, whitepapers, case studies, and web pages.
– Update website content regularly with information concerning appeals, feedback and news. Translation skills will be needed.
– Amend the website donation portal to ensure funds are relevant
– Implement Google AdWords across search, display and video to further promote the Islamic Relief Kenya brand.
– Review Analytics to help improve the website performance and increase fundraising opportunities
– Coordinate website updates and improvements with developers or web agencies.
– Ensure optimal user experience, mobile responsiveness, and conversion paths.
– Analyse competitor activity and customer preferences.
4. SEO & SEM Management

– Manage and execute on-page and off-page SEO strategies to improve organic search rankings and increase website traffic.
– Optimize website structure, meta tags, and other SEO components to ensure the site is search-engine friendly.
– Monitor and analyze content performance using tools like Google Search Console, Moz, and SEMrush to track rankings, monitor website health, and optimize content for SEO.
– Manage SEM (Paid Search) campaigns on Google Ads, ensuring high ROI and efficient use of budget.
– Conduct keyword research and incorporate SEO best practices into content creation to improve search engine rankings and drive organic traffic.
– Optimize old content to maintain relevance and improve SEO rankings.

5. Email Marketing & Automation

– Design and execute email marketing campaigns that nurture leads, engage customers, and drive funds.
– Implement email automation workflows, including welcome sequences, cart abandonment emails, and post-purchase follow-ups.
– Segment email lists based on customer behaviours and demographics to improve targeting and personalization.
– Track email performance, such as open rates and click-through rates, to optimize future campaigns.

6. Paid Media & Budget Management

– Create and manage paid media campaigns across Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
– Optimize paid campaigns to ensure maximum return on investment, adjusting targeting, bidding strategies, and creatives as needed.
– Track ad performance metrics and provide regular reports on campaign outcomes.

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or related field.
• 3-5 years’ experience in digital marketing or related role.
• Experience in marketing, with a strong preference for experience in fundraising within non-profit or humanitarian sector
• Understanding of the charity sector and the fundamentals of marketing
Knowledge and skills
• Proficient in design software including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva
• Have a good understanding of Content Management System (CMS) platforms, familiarity with CMS systems (e.g., WordPress), HTML basics, and marketing automation tools
• Have a good understanding of analysing data and metrics to improve performance
• Excellent verbal and communication skills
• Strong understanding of service delivery and what it takes to deliver successfully to a customer
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines and balance competing priorities
• Planning and organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise and plan work, set and achieve deadlines
• Good communication and interpersonal skills and good teamwork with an ability to work in a collaborative manner
• Results focused – ability to deliver objectives and targets with a positive drive to achieve results
• Sound understanding of the audiences that Islamic Relief communicates with
• Willingness to work independently and take initiative
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects.
• Proficiency with digital tools: Google Ads, Google Analytics, SEO tools (SEMRush, Ahrefs, Moz), email marketing software.
• Experience in e-commerce or B2B marketing.
• Graphic design or video editing knowledge is a plus (Canva, Adobe Suite).
• Strong grasp of current marketing tools and strategies.
