Purpose of position
The Legal Officer will provide high-quality legal support to clients, working under the supervision of the Legal Services Manager. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in client-facing legal work alongside an expert team of internationally qualified refugee lawyers, and alongside social welfare caseworkers and external mental health experts. You will have the chance to learn more about and from refugees in Hong Kong, and engage in rewarding and challenging work.

Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload and provide legal support to refugees and asylum seekers.
- Conduct client interviews and legal research.
- Scope, supervise and review legal work prepared by legal partners and volunteers;
- Collaborate with external partners and maintain positive working arrangements.
- Develop legal resources and deliver training sessions.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer or accredited caseworker (law degree with industry experience may be considered).
- Good knowledge of refugee and asylum law and procedures, and their application in practice.
- Demonstrable commitment to upholding the principle of equal opportunities, and interest in issues related to refugees, asylum seekers and other forced migrants.
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Legal right to work in Hong Kong.
