Purpose Statement
The Information Writer conceptualizes and executes public relations strategies through regular publications that highlight Red Cross services and activities. By creating impactful written and visual content, the role aims to build public trust and inspire support for the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Editorial
- Gather and write news, feature stories, and human-interest pieces related to PRC’s initiatives.
- Compose photo captions, speeches, and other communications to promote Red Cross services and outcomes.
- Collect annual reports from PRC Chapters nationwide for inclusion in quarterly newsletters; perform basic photo-editing and layout.
- Public Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop faster communication channels to reach PRC partners, supporters, and the public effectively.
- Provide updates on PRC activities for the organization’s website and social media platforms.
- Collaborate with corporate partners, clients, employees, and chapters on plans, programs, and projects that emphasize Red Cross principles.
- Write reply letters, memos, and other official communications on behalf of the Chairman and Secretary General.
- Digital & Social Media
- Create and schedule social media content (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to engage various audiences.
- Conduct news monitoring and contribute to events management/coverage for communications visibility.
- Edit photos and videos for social media releases and maintain brand consistency across platforms.
- Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Communications Office to ensure timely updates and cohesive messaging.
- Assist with events coverage, including photography, videography, and content production.
- Perform other tasks as assigned, supporting broader office objectives (e.g., internal/external corporate communications, digital media coordination).
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, or related fields.
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of professional experience in humanitarian or corporate communications.
- 1+ year handling digital media preferred.
- Technical & Professional Skills:
- Strong writing abilities: press releases, speeches, human-interest stories, scripts.
- Familiarity with photo/video editing software and ability to operate DSLR/video cameras.
- Knowledge of public relations, advertising, promotion, and other marketing communication methods.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Interviewing skills and the ability to gather information from multiple sources.

Working Environment
- Office-based ~80% of the time; fieldwork ~20% (e.g., event coverage, interviews).
- Equipment used: Digital SLR, video cameras, recorders, computer, mobile phone, etc.
