The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is an African-based conservation organization that protects wildlife and their habitats as essential to a modern and prosperous Africa. The Legacy Giving Associate plays an integral role in AWF’s growing Development program. Focused on fundraising efforts through estate plans, this position helps ensure the organization’s long-term growth and success. Reporting to the Director and working across the Individual Giving department, this position handles a wide range of administrative tasks and interacts with all levels of management, staff, volunteers, and donors.
The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience providing administrative support to a director or multiple directors. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to AWF’s significant fundraising campaign.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Legacy Giving Director in the stewardship of the Kilimanjaro Society, the legacy giving society, to ensure timely communication and fulfillment of benefits.
- Manage a portfolio of prospective and current planned giving donors. Identify and engage prospective legacy gift donors: Collaborate on outreach efforts to connect with individuals who demonstrate strong affinity for AWF’s mission.
- Engage with other fundraising staff to ensure the inclusion of legacy giving materials and Kilimanjaro Society information is readily accessible and integrated strategically.
- Lead inbound responses to donor inquiries and requests: Provide timely and accurate information to donors about legacy giving options and AWF’s impact.
- Help organize donor engagement events: Contribute to the planning and logistics of events such as workshops, webinars, and educational sessions focused on legacy giving.
- Promote integration of legacy giving across fundraising initiatives: Work with other individual giving colleagues to facilitate legacy giving in broader fundraising strategies.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on legacy giving program performance: Gather data, generate reports, and identify opportunities to enhance the program’s effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records: Ensure all legacy giving data, including actions, contact reports, and gift documentation, is recorded appropriately in the CRM system (Blackbaud NXT).

Requirements and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required
- 2+ years’ experience in fundraising, development, or a related field
- General knowledge of legacy giving concepts, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, and other legacy gifts
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience using CRM systems, experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge/NXT, preferred
- Familiarity with fundraising principles and practices
- Passion for the AWF mission

- Standard office environment
The position is based at AWF’s US office in Washington, DC, SE. AWF is currently offering a hybrid work model. Employees are required to be in the office Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, as well as one additional weekday of their choice. Additionally, employees may be required to be in the office for mandatory meetings or events. Employees are provided the opportunity to work remotely on two days of the week. The hybrid work model is subject to change.
Salary:
- $60,000 – $70,000
