PURPOSE
The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for supporting the accurate and efficient accounting of treasury transactions and insurance-related activities. This role ensures compliance with internal accounting procedures and oversees the preparation and posting of regular accounting entries, reconciliations, and closing activities on a monthly and annual basis. S/he plays a key role in managing statutory accounts, overseeing bank reconciliations, and maintaining the accuracy and completeness of general ledger data.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Internally, interacts with the Accounting Manager or Finance and Administration Manager of the delegation/structure and with "clients" from other departments.
- Externally, interacts mainly with a network of relevant partners.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
S/he works with a team under the ICRC Financial Shared Services, that primarily:
- Perform monthly and annual accounting tasks for treasury, including reconciliations and ledger management.
- Oversee statutory accounts from a treasury perspective, ensuring accurate reporting, fair value entries, and compliance with closing deadlines.
- Execute daily bank reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and securely archive transaction documentation.
- Manage and analyze insurance transactions, ensuring timely processing of claims and insurance premiums.
- Coordinate with IT and maintain the insurance database, ensuring accurate access and data integrity.
- Conduct regular integrity checks and support audit preparation by maintaining organized records.
- Collaborate with the AXA representative for oversight of property insurance claims and coordinate necessary reporting.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience in general and financial accounting
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Peoplesoft, JD Edwards)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
