We are currently looking for one Data Intern to support our Global Programmes team in Geneva:

Duration: 6 months
Remuneration: 1,450 CHF gross per month
Location: Geneva

POSITION PROFILE
The Data Intern will play a key support role in the development and maintenance of data cleaning and analysis workflows, including the creation and optimization of scripts, dashboards, and SQL databases. They will actively engage in identifying, testing, and implementing new software solutions aimed at streamlining operations and improving data processing efficiency and analysis. Reporting to the Cash & Market Senior Specialist, and closely collaborating with the Economic Analysis Officer, the Data Intern will work towards and drive digital transformation initiatives. This includes promoting best practices in data management and technical innovation to the wider IMPACT/REACH team. When overseeing projects, they will ensure the transparent and efficient allocation of resources necessary for successful project execution. This may involve supporting data teams during key phases of analysis, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of outputs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Data Intern is responsible for the following:
DATA MANAGEMENT
- Data management of market-monitoring datasets, and cross-checking data collected in the field;
- Developing cleaning and analysis (descriptive, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression analyses) scripts in R;
- Contributing to the automatization of data analysis processes.
- Assisting with the management and maintenance of a SQL Database (no SQL-specific expertise required).
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
- Developing R Shiny dashboards;
- Providing information management support to other team members, or humanitarian stakeholders;
- Other tasks falling within their functions as requested by supervisors.
The Data Intern will maintain the strictest confidentiality on all data collected and related processes, ensuring full compliance with IMPACT’s data protection policy and SOPs. They will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of any information and data belonging to IMPACT and its partners or collected during their assignment with IMPACT.
REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Excellent academic qualifications preferably including a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (Computer or Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, or related);
- Proven experience of application of the required skills during the studying period in research projects, thesis, etc.
- Interest in an extended career of research within the humanitarian and development sector, especially the desire to move to a field-based position upon the successful completion of the internship
- Exposure during university to research methods, particularly to quantitative research and statistical analysis
- Good knowledge of R, Shiny and Python. Some knowledge of SQL and OpenAI software is considered an advantage
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality work
- Openness to feedback and willingness to learn
- Ability to manage time effectively and work in a fast paced, results oriented working environment
- Ability to work independently, with initiative, and strong capacity to work in intercultural team
- Fluency in oral and written English
Desired but not essential:
- Experience with primary research, especially in an international context
- Fluency in oral and written French or Spanish
- Familiarity with the humanitarian aid system
- Experience with primary data collection or data collection platforms (KOBO)
- Experience with programs under Adobe Creative Suite package, especially InDesign
- Volunteering experience related to international solidarity, either at home or abroad
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
For this position, gross salary is 1’450 CHF monthly (before income tax). NB – IMPACT salaries are strictly determined by our salary grid depending on the grade of the position and the level of education and experience of staff. A contribution to medical insurance of 450 CHF per month is already included in the salary figure.
