Cord is an international NGO dedicated to fostering sustainable peace and empowering communities to resolve conflicts through collaborative and inclusive approaches. To support effective conflict resolution, Cord is seeking an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Consultant to design a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of community leaders to facilitate ADR processes that are locally driven, culturally sensitive, and sustainable.
Objectives of the Consultancy
The primary objectives are:

Capacity Building for NRM Community Leaders:
Develop and deliver a ToT program that equips community leaders with ADR skills to manage conflicts over resources, land, and environmental rights, etc. -
Community-Led ADR Implementation:
Enable leaders to establish and support local ADR initiatives, promoting sustainable, community-driven conflict resolution practices. -
Resource Development and Feedback Integration:
Support Cord in revising its existing ADR training module by incorporating insights from past training sessions, ensuring feedback from local communities, trainers, and practitioners over the past six months is reflected in updated materials.
Deliverables
The ADR Consultant will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Training of Trainers (ToT) Program Design and Delivery:
Develop and deliver ADR-focused training modules. Modules will address core ADR principles including conflict analysis/conflict styles, the conflict resolution spectrum, informal and formal mediation, mediative dialogue, and culturally appropriate facilitation techniques. The ToT will be 3 days and will be conducted in December or early January. -
Review and Enhancement of Existing ADR Training Modules:
Review Cord’s current ADR training modules, integrating feedback from recent ADR training sessions conducted over the past six months. This includes gathering insights from local communities, trainers, and practitioners to ensure the training is relevant, practical, and responsive to on-the-ground needs. -
Customized ADR Toolkit working with and input from Cord PDG Team:
Develop an ADR toolkit that includes tailored guidelines on mediation, and facilitating conflict resolution at the community level. This toolkit should serve as a comprehensive resource for local leaders as they navigate ADR processes. -
Ongoing Mentorship and Support for Local Trainers:
Provide mentorship to local trainers as they implement ADR practices in their communities. This includes feedback on their sessions, guidance on adapting techniques, and building a peer support network among facilitators. -
Final Report on ToT and Module Review Outcomes:
Submit a comprehensive report summarizing the outcomes of the ToT sessions, the process of module review and feedback integration, and recommendations for ongoing community-led ADR initiatives.
Timeline and Conditions
- Expected Start Date: 1 December 2024 – 30 January 2025
- Completion Date: 30 January 2025
- Consultancy Fee: USD 4,500, inclusive of applicable taxes. Payments will be made upon completion of milestones, with the final payment contingent on approval of the final report.
Qualifications and Experience
The ADR Consultant should have:
- Degree in Conflict Resolution, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ADR, specifically within the natural resource or community development sector.
- Proven experience in conducting ToT programs for community leaders and in reviewing training materials to integrate practical feedback.
- Strong understanding of conflict dynamics in natural resource management, including land use, environmental rights, and resource access.
- Ability to adapt training materials to reflect local cultural contexts and stakeholder feedback effectively.
- Availability for travel to community sites as required.
