Objectives of the traineeship
The communications Trainee will support the Madagascar team with the implementation of the country-level communications plans. The deliverables are categorised under the following pillars;
- Communication for marketing and expert positioning of TdH NL
- Communication for awareness and behavior change
- Communication for advocacy and lobbying
- Communication to promote learning.
Position in the organization
The Communications Trainee will report to the Country Director in Madagascar, while at the same time receiving technical advice and support from the Africa Regional Communications Advisor, with whom he/she will work closely.
Result areas and core activities
The incumbents main duties and responsibilities include:
- Support for the implementation of the communication plan
- Strengthen TdH NL’s brand and visibility by communicating the milestones and achievements of the FAMAHA 2 and JOFA ACTE projects on online and offline platforms.
- Develop, plan, and publish content on internal (Workplace and WhatsApp) and external (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube) communication channels.
- Develop quality communication products (case stories, photos, project or thematic impact videos, best practices) in line with the Ethical content policy.
- Identify, engage and work with strategic media consultants to help us secure paid and unpaid media opportunities on TV, radio and print, issue press releases and help organise press conferences for project launches.
- Develop or collate communication and learning materials for the Madagascar country office, such as factsheets, profiles, PowerPoint presentations, and reports.
- Translate relevant communication materials from English to French and translate discussions at meetings.
- Support the sourcing of branding materials, where appropriate, and other initiatives to increase the visibility of TdH NL in-country.
- Provide hands-on support during monitoring visits and project documentation, and in the organisation and documentation of in-country events.
- Assist in supporting the project teams with all their communication needs in close collaboration with the Africa Regional Communications Advisor.
2. Help improve TdH NL branding/visibility through local partners
- Help guide partners and national teams on the application of TdH NL branding and visibility guidelines.
- Ensure appropriate branding is applied before designs are submitted to the Africa Regional Communications Advisor for official validation.
- Monitor and ensure brand and branding compliance by all partners and adhere to donor brand and branding policies.
- Provide support in the development, production, and dissemination of advocacy publications such as policy briefs.
3. Support the Africa Regional Communications Advisor in the execution of global and regional communication activities
- Support the development of communications products required for global channels e.g Terre Magazine.
- Upon request, contribute to the implementation of global and regional communication tasks such rolling out global campaigns in-country and any other tasks as assigned.
Perform any other duties as relevant for the Madagascar country programme as assigned and as can reasonably be expected from the position.
Knowledge and experience
- Degree in communications, journalism or multimedia.
- Experience in social media and web content management (including use of content management software).
- Experience in writing, proofreading, and editing various communication materials for distribution on the website and social networking platforms, with basic knowledge of graphic design.
- Experience in taking photos and videos at events and during field visits.
- Experience in media relations and advocacy.
- Fluency in both French and English.
- Computer skills: good knowledge of working in Google Cloud and its applications (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.), including basic skills in working with photo and video editing software.
- Ability to undertake documentary research using a variety of resources (mainly internal).
- Ability to work well with diverse teams, including partners and donors.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in Madagascar (Betroka and Taolagnaro).
