PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN HUMANITARIAN AND DEVELOPMENT CONTEXTS

This 6-week course with live interactive sessions is designed specifically for project managers and officers working in humanitarian and development contexts.
You will gain insights into effective project planning, implementation, and management to deliver impactful results in the field. The course combines theoretical learning with real-world applications to prepare you for the challenges of conflict zones, disaster-affected areas, and other difficult settings.
COURSE OBJECTIVES AND RESULTS
This course will empower you to contribute effectively to the success of your projects, helping deliver humanitarian and development assistance that meets the needs of vulnerable communities. By the end of this course, you will:
- Gain a solid understanding of the core phases of project management—Initiation, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring, and Closing—tailored for humanitarian and development settings.
- Learn to navigate complex environments, including coordination with multiple stakeholders, ensuring donor compliance, and effective community engagement.
- Master essential project management tools such as logframes, Gantt charts, and risk assessments, applying them directly to humanitarian scenarios.
Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
- Design, implement, and monitor projects that deliver tangible benefits to communities in need.
- Effectively address context-specific challenges, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that projects align with donor expectations.
- Improve your skills in stakeholder engagement, adaptability, and problem-solving—key competencies for proactive project management in unpredictable settings.
METHODOLOGY
This is a combination of dynamic live sessions conducted using Zoom and off-line self-study. This means we will meet online for weekly live discussion sessions, and between sessions you will work through the self-study materials. This is what you can expect:
- DYNAMIC LIVE SESSIONS: Engage in six interactive weekly live sessions conducted via Zoom (and recorded for future reference), where expert instructor Neil Kendrick will guide you through the learning process. Each week we meet live for around 60-90 minutes to discuss the application of the tools and explore any questions.
- FLEXIBLE SELF-STUDY: Work through video presentations and tasks at your own pace between meetings.
- DISCUSSION SPACES: At the end of each module, you can leave reflections and questions in the Check In sections for discussion or for the next meeting.
- DEDICATED SUPPORT: Dedicated support is available throughout the course duration for any technical issues or additional questions.
- CERTIFICATION OF PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT: On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a certificate recognizing your expertise in project management.
- PERSONALIZED FEEDBACK: Submit an assignment after completing the course to receive detailed, constructive feedback tailored to your work. This feedback helps you refine your skills and maximize the course’s impact.
