Overview of the Role:
The Climate Change Expert will support STOOS in implementing a comprehensive climate change research project aimed at assessing the impact of climate change on Iraq’s economy. The expert will play a key role in drafting inception reports, developing tools, conducting data collection and analysis, and preparing detailed reports to integrate climate risks into national planning strategies. This role requires a strong background in climate change research, economic analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in Drafting Inception Reports and Tools:
- Assist in developing inception reports outlining the scope, objectives, and methodology of the climate change impact assessment.
- Design and implement tools and models for data collection, analysis, and climate risk assessment.
- Conducting Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and analyze data related to climate change projections (e.g., temperature changes, precipitation patterns, extreme weather events) and their economic impacts.
- Perform economic and financial analyses to assess the impact of climate change on key sectors in Iraq.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed reports on the findings of the climate change impact assessment.
- Provide recommendations for integrating climate risks into national policies and sectoral plans.
- Document methodologies, tools, and models used in the assessment for future reference.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building:
- Support the organization of dialogue sessions with public and private sector stakeholders to communicate findings and raise awareness.
- Conduct capacity-building workshops and training sessions for the Ministry of Planning and other relevant stakeholders.
Roles and Tasks:
- Conduct climate change impact assessments and economic analyses.
- Develop and implement tools and models for data collection and analysis.
- Draft inception reports, assessment reports, and policy recommendations.
- Engage with stakeholders to communicate findings and build capacity.
- Ensure timely delivery of all project outputs and deliverables.
Key Education and Experience Requirements:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in climate change impact assessments, economic analysis, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of climate change projections, economic modeling, and financial analysis.
- Experience working in Iraq or the Middle East region is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
