As our current longstanding CFO has reached his retirement, LM International is seeking a new Global CFO to elevate key aspects of our Global strategy “Roadmap 2030”. This role involves providing strategic leadership and financial management for our entire Global foundation.

LM International (Läkarmissionen) is a Swedish Global Foundation that has been dedicated to saving lives, empowering people, and ensuring everyone’s right to a dignified life in a sustainable world since 1958. We conduct international development cooperation and humanitarian aid in approximately 20 countries, primarily in Africa and Latin America, but also in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. With around 400 employees, our operations span our global office in Stockholm, mobilisation offices in New York and Oslo, regional hubs in Panama City, Dubai, and Nairobi, and ten country offices in sub-Saharan Africa and Ukraine.
Profile background
As our CFO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and growth of the foundation. Operating in a complex environment, you will lead our Global office in Stockholm, and our Global Governance sector, and strategically support our mobilisation offices, regional hubs, and country offices.
This role demands curiosity about the unique dynamics of our world and the ability to collaborate effectively. You must be skilled in balancing both the supportive, catalytic and expansive aspects of the role.
You will lead and inspire your department with a focus on finance, business, investments, HR and innovation. Your main areas of responsibility include finance, business management, innovation, investment, contracts and negotiations, and purchasing.
The Global office in Sweden consists of approximately 50 employees, mostly based in Stockholm. Within the foundation, we have just over 400 employees.
Key areas of responsibility
Strategic Leadership:
- Actively contribute with strong and visionary leadership for the entire foundation in financial strategy, planning and organisational sustainability as part of the Executive Management.
- Lead financial planning and analysis to support long-term goals.
- Drive execution of LM International’s diversification strategy, ensuring scalable and ethical revenue growth.
- Contribute to the development of the LM business plan for the entire organisation.
Financial Management:
- Lead, operate, and further develop the foundation’s finance function overseeing financial operations, including accounting, auditing, consolidation, tax, and financial reporting.
- Ensure transparency and responsibility in financial budgeting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Oversee annual processes linked to financial statements, annual reports, budgets, and forecasts.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to optimise resource use.
- Support ongoing accounting, follow-up, financial reporting, and the organisation’s annual report.
- Serve as chief negotiator in contractual and procurement matters.
- Lead LMs work on financial investment, while ensuring a good return for asset management while adhering to ethical guidelines in collaboration with the Legal and Finance Committee.
- Drive continued streamlining of financial processes.
HR and Change Management:
- Ensure good union cooperation in contractual matters, salary revision, and work environment in collaboration with the HR function in Sweden.
- Coach the department’s key staff towards high delivery.
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and well-being within the global finance function.
- Lead active change management work from an HR perspective with the Global HR manager.
- Strengthen and manage the organisation’s values and culture.
- Ensure processes and tools for a safe and secure work environment.
- Quality-assure HR processes and strategies.
- HR responsibility is carried out in close cooperation with the Global HR team. Prior experience leading cross-functional teams and organisational development is highly relevant.
Required qualifications:
- CFO experience. At least 10 years of experience as a CFO and/or C-executive in an international context, including leadership and management within international development cooperation and/or international business and investment context.
- Financial Expertise. A deep understanding of financial principles, including accounting, financial reporting, consolidation, tax planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Academic grounding. Relevant university degree in economics, business or equivalent; master’s level required.
- Strategic Planning. Ability to align financial planning with the broader business strategy, understanding market landscapes, competition, and long-term organisational goals with the ability to see the big picture.
- Leadership and Team Management. Strong leadership skills to inspire and manage teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment in leading change processes.
- Analytical Aptitude. Advanced analytical skills to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions that drive company growth. This will include proficiency in all aspects of financial management, balance sheet, cash flow, and asset management.
- Communication Skills. Effective communication to clearly convey financial insights and strategies to stakeholders. Fluency in English and Swedish; French and/or Spanish preferable. Other Scandinavian languages are an asset.
- Integrity and Ethical Conduct. Commitment to high ethical leadership standards and integrity in all financial dealings. Experience working effectively in international and cross-cultural environments.
- Business and investment Acumen. Understanding of the business environment and the ability to make decisions that align with the foundation’s overall goals. Experience working with or reporting to executive boards and/or boards of trustees and governance structures is desirable, including contributions to strategic decision-making, financial oversight, and organisational governance. Experience in building and scaling mission-driven enterprises in emerging markets is considered a strong asset.
- Change Management. Ability to execute innovative solutions in change management.
About the Position
The CFO reports directly to the Secretary-General. LM’s work is grounded in Christian core values, with a focus on human rights, gender equality, and poverty reduction.
Location: Global office in Stockholm
Type of Employment: Permanent position (six-month probationary period).
