Contract Duration: One year, renewable
Type of Employment: Full-time (Four working days per week)
Reports to: Executive Director – Board of Directors (Turkey Office)
Supervises: Advocacy and Communications Teams

Women Now for Development is a grassroots, intersectional feminist organization led by Syrian women. We employ participatory and transformative approaches that empower women and girls on the ground to take on leadership roles. We also contribute to building women’s/feminist movements and enriching feminist knowledge production at the national, regional, and international levels, in pursuit of a more just and democratic society.

Position Objective

To lead and develop the organization’s Advocacy and Communications Department, enhance its political and media presence, and expand its influence in public discourse and policies related to its areas of work, particularly on Syrian and feminist issues in the countries where the organization operates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s overarching advocacy and communications strategy.
  • Provide administrative supervision of the advocacy and communications teams, ensuring performance development and evaluation.
  • Represent the organization in relevant national, regional, and international coalitions and networks, delivering interventions and messages that reflect the organization’s positions at public events and conferences.
  • Draft and review advocacy messages and campaign content, ensuring alignment with the organization’s values and human rights-based context.
  • Oversee the implementation of advocacy projects and campaigns, providing technical and strategic guidance in coordination with the Programs Department.
  • Organize research launch events in coordination with the Research Team.
  • Manage media and advocacy campaigns, including planning, content development, and inter-team coordination.
  • Develop and update media materials (newsletters, reports, videos, digital posts, press releases, etc.).
  • Supervise the Communications Team in developing website and digital platform content, and monitor digital performance.
  • Oversee the Communications Team’s efforts in maintaining ongoing coordination with media partners and outlets to effectively amplify the organization’s voice and mission.
  • Contribute to writing project proposals related to advocacy, campaigns, and communications, including budgeting and M&E planning.
  • Support the development of internal policies related to communications, digital security, and media privacy.
  • Manage advocacy activities in Turkey with civil society partners, including:
    • Coordinating with partners’ advocacy teams to review papers, recommendations, and reports produced within the organization’s projects in Turkey in alignment with the organization’s vision and values.
    • Coordinating with program and protection teams to set timelines for the implementation of advocacy activities within the projects.

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g., Media, Journalism, or any related discipline)
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in advocacy and communications, preferably within civil society organizations.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Experience in designing and managing media and advocacy campaigns (both digital and field-based).
  • Experience in media relations, drafting press releases, and producing impactful content.

Required Personal Skills

  • Strong knowledge of the Syrian context, particularly Syrian feminist issues and matters of justice and accountability.

  • Practical and in-depth knowledge of applying feminist approaches and gender justice in different work settings, particularly in conflict and migration contexts.

  • Professional organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and work under pressure.

  • Political analysis capabilities and an ability to craft context-sensitive, rights-based messaging.

  • Proficiency in using digital media tools and content management systems.

  • Full commitment to human rights and feminist values.
