The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, is pleased to invite you to our upcoming United Nations Civil-Military Humanitarian Coordination (UN-CMCoord) training course, to be held from 20 to 24 January 2025 in Santo Domingo de Guzmán, Dominican Republic.

This course on Civil-Military Humanitarian Coordination will be delivered in Spanish and is aimed at professionals working in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region on humanitarian emergency preparedness and response issues. OCHA will cover costs for the training venue, board, and accommodation for the duration of the course. We kindly ask your organization to take care of travel arrangements, including any visa requirements, and any applicable allowances.

OCHA’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) and the Civil-Military Coordination Service in OCHA (CMCS) will jointly lead the event. The course will accommodate 20 participants and will bring together four interdependent emergency communities: a) OCHA and UN agency staff; b) emergency response personnel; c) UN Member States, including national and international armed forces; and d) non-governmental humanitarian organizations. Mid-level managers, particularly women, with relevant qualifications and/or a position in the region are encouraged to apply.

The objectives of this course are: a) to define the concept of humanitarian civil-military coordination (UN-CMCoord), including existing UN-CMCoord core guidelines, b) to assess the UN-CMCoord environment in operational contexts in Latin America and the Caribbean, and c) to establish common grounds of understanding on the key role each actor can play in supporting effective civil-military coordination in responses to natural disasters and/or complex emergencies.
