Introduction

Options is seeking a consultant to support the development of a strategic plan for the CSO-led Network on Ending FGM in Kenya who will work in close collaboration with the Network’s Taskforce, with a view to strengthening the network’s sustainability and coordination efforts.

About the Programme

The Girl Generation (TGG): Support to the Africa Led Movement to End FGM/C Programme, (TGG-ALM) is a consortium led by Options Consultancy Services, and includes Amref Health Africa, ActionAid, Orchid Project, Africa Coordination Centre for Abandonment of FGM/C and University of Portsmouth. It works closely with the Population Council’s Data Hub, the programme’s data and measurement arm. The programme envisions a world where girls and women can exercise their power and rights and have expanded choice and agency and be free from violence, including FGM/C.

Summary purpose and objective of role

  1. Support Strategic Planning Process:
    To facilitate and guide the development of a comprehensive strategic plan for the CSO-led Network on Ending FGM in Kenya.
  2. Collaborate with the Taskforce:
    To work closely and collaboratively with the established Network’s Taskforce, which is the designated focal point for the strategic planning process.
  3. Ensure Sustainability of the Network:
    To contribute to building a sustainable, long-term framework for the Network now coordinated by the Coalition On Violence Against Women (COVAW).
  4. Provide Technical Support:
    To offer expertise and support on a voluntary low-fee basis, driven by a commitment to ending violence against women and girls, particularly FGM.

Person specification

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to ending FGM and broader violence against women and girls. They will have experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and working with civil society organizations. This role is well-suited for a values-driven individual willing to contribute on a voluntary or low-fee basis.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in social sciences, gender studies, public health, development studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, programme design, or organizational development, preferably within the civil society or women’s rights sector.
  • Proven experience working on issues related to FGM, gender-based violence, or women’s empowerment.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate participatory planning processes and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with or within coalitions, networks, or multi-partner initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the Kenyan civil society and policy landscape, particularly in relation to gender and FGM.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing and documentation skills, including report and strategic plan development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, adapt to changing contexts, and manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with a high degree of self-motivation and integrity.

Desirable

  • Previous experience volunteering or working in a low-resource consultancy setting.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English.
  • Familiarity with the TGG-ALM programme or similar donor-funded initiatives
