Know your Project / Team
Project that aims to improve the health and nutritional well-being of pregnant women and children under five across four provinces in the Philippines and address determinants of stunting in children under five years of age.
The project will strive towards improving the quality of the existing service provision through service delivery platforms and adopting gender-responsive approaches that address health systems gaps in (i) human resource capacity, (ii) supply chain management of essential nutrition products, (iii) monitoring and accountability processes, (iv) health management information systems and processes including capacity on using data for decision making, (v) program budgetary planning processes along with (vi) approaches towards community behaviour focusing on socio-cultural and gender norms.
About you
You will have a Master’s degree in gender/women’s studies with a focus on one of child health, nutrition, public health, or international development with experience and training in gender and development with around 5 years of experience with NGOs, UN agencies, and/or other service providers in a Gender Equality or technical role supporting public health, and/or nutrition related programs within the Philippines. Experience with results-based management and mainstreaming gender in the development and implementation of new programs is required.
Excellent English language skill (read, write and speak) is a prerequisite. Fluency in local language is also required.
About the role
The Gender Equality Officer will be the thematic specialist on all gender equality components of the project and will be responsible for providing best practices and a context-adapted approach for gender responsive actions and activities in a context of health services strengthening and delivery for pregnant women and children under 5. The position’s primary role is to ensure that gender considerations are fully integrated in planning, design and implementation of the project to ensure compliance with donor expectations and achieve the project goals. Under the supervision of the Project Director, and in close collaboration with the Senior Gender Equality Specialist based in Ottawa, the GE Officer will implement the project’s Gender Equality strategy and provide leadership and technical support to the project team, field teams, project partners including women’s rights organizations and civil society organizations. In this role you will be responsible to:
- Provide gender technical support for research and project evaluation activities during the start-up phase, including baseline, gender and human rights analysis and barrier analysis to inform project implementation
- Develop a Project Gender Equality Strategy along with gender responsive project operational plan in consultation with the project team including approaches to address challenges identified through the studies
- Provide quality assurance on gender components within project planning and reporting documentation as required.
- Provide technical guidance and feedback on gender-responsive nutrition action plans, social and behaviour change strategies, and other project deliverables
- Stay abreast of and contribute to the latest knowledge/best practice of emerging issues related to gender equality within stunting prevention and child survival programs
- Develop knowledge translation and learning products to showcase progress on gender equality, women’s empowerment and share learning with implementing partners, government, and communities
