What is the Victoria Community Centre?

The Victoria Community Centre, based in Athens, Greece, is a collaborative, and community-based effort of 8 partner organizations to provide essential resources, support services, and a sense of belonging to the city’s diverse population.

As part of the centre’s mission to address food insecurity amongst people with refugee backgrounds, Glocal Roots is responsible for the operations and management of the community cafe. A place of connection, we are looking for a Project Management intern for the Cafe in the summer of 2025 to assist in the successful implementation of food-related and community-building activities in the Victoria Community Centre.

Purpose of internship:

Project administration, daily operations and community building

Key responsibilities:

  • Support in the successful implementation of cafe activities in the centre including working in partnership with partners, manager and security team to deliver logistics and successful daily distribution of food.
  • Assist the project manager with the management of stock levels and inventory, ensuring efficient operations within budget.
  • Support all project tasks, including reporting, monitoring and evaluation of activities, to ensure project is delivered within scope and in line with needs of visitors.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with suppliers and partners.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic space to high standards.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and volunteers.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse team and interact with visitors and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage stock, schedules, and operational tasks efficiently.
  • Leadership qualities to inspire the cafe team and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Drivers License is mandatory for this position

Desired Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a hospitality setting
  • Knowledge in context relevant languages (Greek, Arabic, Farsi, French, Dari)

How to Apply:

This internship consists of working in the community cafe (70%) and administrative project management tasks (30%). It aims to provide the successful candidate with valuable insight into the daily and strategic operations of a humanitarian project as well as provide field experience.

Minimum commitment: 5 months.

This is an unpaid position. Interns are responsible for covering transport costs to and from Athens, accommodation and any other expenses.
