The Role

  • Duration up to 31 December 2025 with possibility of extension

Position Description

The Chief Economic and Fiscal Policy is an in-line senior management position within the Treasury Division, Department of Finance. This role leads and manages the economic and fiscal group. The Chief is responsible for

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the Economic and Fiscal Group
  • Providing quality advice for effective decision making
  • Preparing and maintaining economic and budget models, and the fiscal strategy
  • Developing systems and transferring skills within the team to ensure sustainable operations
  • Providing advice and guidance on cross-cutting issues.

Selection Criteria

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in economics or related discipline from a recognised university. Post graduate qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a senior position or similar role in economic and fiscal analysis and public policy
  • Experience with analysing, developing and maintaining economic models, and presenting practical solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and competency in MS Office (Word & Excel) in producing reports and drafting documents for publication
  • Experience in leading and managing teams and ability to mentor junior staff
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, discuss and work effectively with Government officers, senior staff of the Ministry and external technical advisers.

Desirable experience and knowledge

  • Experience living and working in the Pacific region
  • Experience in a developing country government Treasury or Finance department
