JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Director at MedGlobal leads the strategic direction and operational growth of the organization’s healthcare programs globally, with a focus on quality assurance, systems strengthening, and research and innovation in humanitarian health delivery. This role oversees technical standards across clinical programs, volunteer missions, and training initiatives, while building strong networks of technical personnel and field-based teams. The Medical Director champions evidence-based care, continuous learning, and medical research integration across settings. They play a pivotal role in setting and enforcing care standards, designing strategic health interventions, strengthening global medical governance, and ensuring preparedness for emergencies and outbreaks. This position requires a dynamic and collaborative leader with experience in complex emergencies, health systems, medical quality control, education development, and multidisciplinary team management.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the strategic design and implementation of MedGlobal health programs, ensuring alignment with international standards, public health needs, and MedGlobal evolving technical vision.
- Oversee quality and standard setting across all health facilities, RMMs, and training programs, including staffing, clinical protocols, and equipment guidelines.
- Supervise and grow a globally distributed technical team including health, nutrition and mental health specialists, MEAL, RMM, research, nursing, and clinical specialists, ensuring technical support and mentorship to field offices.
- Strengthen MEAL systems through the leadership of a growing team, overseeing the rollout of digital data tools, accountability mechanisms, and unified monitoring frameworks.
- Develop a telemedicine program to bridge medical technical capacities to local sites where MedGlobal operates, improving both quality and learning of local teams.
- Build and coordinate volunteer technical committees (e.g. maternal/child health, nursing care…) and inter-office working groups to enhance oversight, curriculum development, quality monitoring, and cross-country learning.
- Direct the organization’s research and quality improvement agenda, integrating field-based research projects and partnerships with academic institutions.
- Lead development of standardized training packages for emergency care courses (ENC, HMS, POCUS, trauma, CBRNE), supporting quality delivery and scaling.
- Guide emergency preparedness strategy, including surveillance pilots (e.g., EIOS), early warning systems, and cross-country response coordination.
- Collaborate with operations, security, and logistics departments to ensure technical alignment in emergency response and risk mitigation.
- Maintain and expand partnerships with academic institutions, health ministries, UN agencies, and professional networks for knowledge-sharing and strategic advocacy.
- Contribute to aspiring future MedGlobal volunteers (international medical students and residents) development through electives, and fellowships, promoting global health education, QI and research and clinical exposure.
- Participate in rapid response planning and deployment during emergencies, with a focus on technical and clinical coordination.
- Oversee internal medical governance, research ethics processes, and clinical accountability mechanisms.
- Contribute to fundraising strategy by aligning proposals with technical priorities, generating research outputs, and representing MedGlobal in global health forums.
- Oversee the technical writing of all relevant grant proposals.
- Promote person-centered, evidence-based care throughout MedGlobal programs and strategic planning.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Public Health or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in public health program management, preferably in an international setting.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing and motivating teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of global health issues, trends, and best practices.
- Proficiency in data analysis and monitoring and evaluation techniques.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and manage multiple healthcare programs simultaneously.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
- Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Skills in resource mobilization, including grant writing, fundraising, and donor relations.
- Budget management and financial oversight skills.
- Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and apply findings to program development and policy advocacy.
- Skills in crisis response and the ability to adapt quickly to emergency situations.
- Experience in developing and implementing emergency response plans.
