The Role

The Disability Coordinator will work closely with the GEDSI Lead and the Disability and Social Inclusion Specialists to develop, implement, monitor and review Pacific Australia Skills Disability Equity and Rights Strategy. The role will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating and organising specific tasks that are implemented under Pacific Australia Skills disability programs and activities.

The Disability Coordinator will work closely with workstreams across Pacific Australia Skills, including the MEL, gender and partnerships teams and DFAT Posts to support the incorporation of cross-cutting development priorities and safeguards surrounding disability inclusion into all Pacific Australia Skills functions and activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • With GEDSI Lead and Disability and Social Inclusion Specialists support development, implementation and monitoring of the Disability Equity and Rights Strategy.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including OPDs, CSOs, disability service providers and community groups and agencies by engaging in a range of communication channels including presentations, conferences, and on-site visits.
  • Act as a point of contact to PASP for stakeholders, liaising with them to advise and respond to requests, and facilitate an integrated approach to stakeholder support.
  • Identify and leverage links to relevant Pacific and Timor-Leste organisations, networks, and programs for the benefit of PASP and DFAT.
  • Support learning and knowledge exchange activities (e.g., induction, training, workshops, information management systems) as required.
  • Support the MEL team to ensure that disability inclusion is embedded into MEL systems and frameworks.
  • Gather information on trends and issues in the disability sector.
  • Work collaboratively with OPDs and CSOs and contributing to the development of proactive strategies and responses that contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of services provided.
  • Proactively identify and approach disability service providers to establish new relationships.
  • Actively maintain networks between external stakeholders to improve access and information sharing.
  • Educate key stakeholders about PASP’s services, processes, and tools, as well as obligations and entitlements, removing barriers to access and ensuring a positive experience with PASP.
  • Participate in and contribute to activities and projects within the region, as appropriate.
  • Additional tasks as allocated by the PASP Program Effectiveness team.
  • Contribute to developing harmonious working relationships with DFAT, colleagues and key stakeholders, and assist to build the profile and reputation of PASP as a high performing support program.
  • As a member of the PASP team, contribute to: program strategy development and work planning; integration of GEDSI, First Nation perspectives, environmental considerations and other cross-cutting issues; fostering of a collaborative team; and measurement of results and production of reports.

About You

Selection Criteria

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Tertiary qualifications in disability, international development, social sciences, or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role preferably across the Pacific and/or Timor-Leste.
  • Extensive experience in disability policy, advisory or programming.
  • Demonstrated understanding of DFAT priorities and development challenges related to disability equity and rights and how they apply in the Pacific region and Timor-Leste.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and coordination skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, environmental protection, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
  • People with lived experience of the regions in which PASP operate are strongly encouraged to apply.
