The PROSPECTS Partnership is a joint initiative between humanitarian and development partners, using development financing provided by the Government of the Netherlands, to pursue long-term solutions to forced displacement. Under the partnership, UNHCR, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF and the World Bank work together in eight countries across the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
The intern will benefit from the unique opportunity to work on a flagship programme in support of the humanitarian-development nexus and the Global Compact on Refugees. The incumbent will not only be able to contribute to UNHCR’s work across several of the main refugee-hosting countries but also gain valuable insights into inter-agency collaboration and the agency’s work with donor partners.
THE POSITION
The intern will directly contribute to UNHCR’s coordination of the PROSPECTS Partnership and support engagement with partner agencies and the donor. The intern will be placed within Donor Group VI, located within UNHCR’s Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization Service in the Division of External Relations. However, s/he will support the wider UNHCR PROSPECTS team (Division of External Relations, Division of Resilience & Solutions, Division of International Protection) on a range of administrative, coordination, and communication tasks. The intern may also contribute to supporting wider engagement with government donors within the Donor Group.
The ideal candidate will be a recent or current graduate student within a field relevant to UNHCR’s work. The team is looking for a proactive and dynamic team player able to interact with a wide range of colleagues in a professional and goal-oriented way. S/he should bring excellent organization skills and be an effective written and verbal communicator. Adaptability to fast-changing environments and ability to prioritise competing demands while working consistently towards agreed deliverables are indispensable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO ; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR .
• Not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, including any prior internships (8 months for full-time and 12 months for part-time).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• English at B2 level is a requirement. Arabic language skills are an asset.
• Current or recent graduate studies in a subject relevant to UNHCR’s work are highly desirable.
• Understanding of refugee protection challenges, particularly in East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Middle East is highly desirable.
• Applicants with a lived experience of forced displacement are especially encouraged to apply.
