Position: Sr. Manager, Communications, AIM (National or International)

About the Role:
The Senior Manager, Communications for AIM programme at BRAC International (BI) will lead the AIM programme’s global communications strategy, positioning AIM and BI as key voices in gender equality and young women’s empowerment. This role is responsible for shaping the organization’s public narrative, strengthening brand visibility, and fostering high-impact engagement with stakeholders, including media, donors, policymakers, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications & Branding
- Develop/refine and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the BRAC International’s mission and goals and the AIM programme’s priorities.
- Ensure consistent messaging, branding, and tone across all communications platforms.
- Oversee the creation and dissemination of program learnings, impact stories, newsletters, and promotional materials
Public Relations & Thought Leadership
- Develop a key messaging framework for the AIM programme and execute a PR strategy that enhances the organization’s reputation and influence in the women’s empowerment space.
- Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to amplify program impact.
- Draft and distribute press releases, op-eds, and media briefings to highlight key program achievements and advocacy efforts.
- Secure speaking engagements, interviews, and panel opportunities for senior leaders to position the organization as an authority on gender equality.
- Monitor media trends and proactively manage public relations opportunities and risks.
- Develop partnerships with thought leaders, policymakers, and peer organizations to share the program’s reach and impact.
Content Creation & Campaigns
- Lead the development of multimedia content, including video stories, photo essays, and interactive digital storytelling, to highlight the organization’s impact. Ensure the promotion of youth voice.
- Plan and execute high-impact campaigns that engage audiences and drive advocacy on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues.
- Oversee the celebration of key international events such as International Women’s Day, International Youth Day, Day of the Girl Child, 16 Days of Activism, and other relevant global observances.
- Collaborate with creative teams, designers, and videographers to produce compelling visuals and narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
- In collaboration with BRAC International Communications team, develop and manage digital campaigns that drive awareness and engagement.
- Oversee website content, blog posts, and social media platforms to ensure regular and impactful updates.
- Leverage data analytics to refine digital strategies and measure campaign effectiveness.
Communications Leadership, Management & Strategic Oversight
- Define quarterly and annual work plans for country-based communications teams, based on programme and team priorities. Update project management tools and participate in weekly/monthly meetings.
- Oversee the implementation of planned activities related to content, events, celebration of important days and events, and campaigns.
- Ensure strategic alignment, coherent messaging, and a coordinated approach for content, events and campaigns at both central and country-level.
- Coordinate the engagement of consultants (for video production, photography, printing or other communications-related work) and provide guidance to ensure the timely delivery of quality outputs.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of communications plans — and readjust accordingly.
Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support advocacy efforts by creating compelling communication materials for policy influence and stakeholder engagement in collaboration with AIM Advocacy and KML colleagues.
- Collaborate with program teams to document success stories, case studies, and impact assessments.
- Organize events, webinars, and campaigns that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Donor Engagement & Compliance
- Create reports, newsletters, and impact summaries that effectively convey program success to donors and funding partners.
- Ensure all communications comply with donor requirements, legal standards, and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with the grants and fundraising teams to develop compelling funding proposals and stewardship materials when needed.
- Maintain transparency and accountability by aligning communications with compliance and reporting standards.
Internal Communications & Capacity Building
- Strengthen internal communication processes to ensure staff alignment with program objectives.
- Provide training and support to staff on communication best practices.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure integrated messaging and knowledge sharing.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Establish a safeguarding culture by implementing the safeguarding policies, taking programme decisions with the do-no-harm principle, mitigating safeguarding risks and maintaining a safe working environment where staff feel encouraged to voice concerns without fear of retaliation.
- Ensure 100% of team members, partners and service providers have access to and receive mandatory training on the safeguarding policies and reporting channels.
- Introduce a mandatory safeguarding agenda in monthly meetings for continuous dialogue & reminders as part of creating a safeguarding culture.
- eReport safeguarding incidents witnessed or experiences to the Safeguarding department. For known cases, maintain neutrality, be sensitive and non-judgemental to victims/survivors, and cooperate with organisational investigations providing accurate information as needed.
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, Sociology, Economics or a related field.
Required Skills, Competencies & Knowledge:
- A strategic and creative thinker with proven experience of working on diverse and wide-ranging communication strategies including all forms of media
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English. Demonstrated experience writing and editing success stories, human-interest stories, scripts, reports, knowledge products, and other communications materials in English.
- Experience of developing and managing strong and complex relationships across programmes as part of a centralized function and externally with multiple stakeholders
- Multimedia skills, particularly video production (planning, creative briefs and scriptwriting).
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and a variety of tasks.
- Strong analytical skills. Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate them clearly and persuasively to various audiences.
- Ability to be a positive team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from a wide variety of cultures, with sensitivity and respect.
- Willingness to travel to operational countries and others, as required.
- Proficient in the use of IT Systems, including Microsoft Office packages and G-Suite
- Patient, adaptable, able to improvise, and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure
- Fluent communication (written and spoken) in English
- Knowledge of BRAC, its history, and its programmes and culture are desirable.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in strategic communications, preferably within the nonprofit or international development sector.
- Strong understanding of gender equality issues, women’s rights, and social justice advocacy.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex communications projects and processes.
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating communications plans.
- Experience working with media, donors, and advocacy groups at national and international levels.
- Proficiency in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation tools.
- Strong leadership, project management, and team collaboration skills.
- Experience working in an international work environment.

The Mastercard Foundation Accelerating Impact for Young Women in partnership with BRAC (AIM) will create a positive and measurable impact for 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and 9.5 million people across seven countries in East and West Africa, including Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
