Overview

The Global Strategy Network (TGSN) is a team of field researchers, analysts, programme implementers, software and machine learning engineers, data scientists, and thought leaders dedicated to doing development differently. We partner with governments, the private sector, and NGOs to design, implement, monitor and evaluate programmes that address some of the globe’s most pressing challenges.

We are seeking a proactive, innovative individual to join our team of diverse, value-driven experts. As a Monitoring, Research, Evaluation and Learning (MREL) Officer, you will work on international projects that tackle a variety of issues, such as the drivers of conflict or the spread of mis/disinformation. You will combine field and online methodologies that enable data-driven, human-centric research to design, deliver and iterate impactful programming.

The MREL officer will report into the MREL and Data Analyst, with oversight by the MREL Director. This is a core team position.

TGSN is headquartered in London, but this position may be filled remotely from any location whose time zone significantly overlaps with GMT. Applicants must already have the right to work in their country of residence. Please note we are not able to pursue sponsorship to the UK for this role.

Duties

Specific responsibilities may include the following but will be finalised with the respective manager.

  • Work in a team with diverse backgrounds and skills to bring novel solutions to complex research issues
  • Collaborate with senior management and specialists on the design of research plans and MREL systems, and then drive them forward with our partners, field teams and project managers.
  • Communicate these plans clearly and manage their implementation, adapting them where needed to the demands of working in fragile and conflict-affected areas.
  • Use and understand data, embrace the potential utility of no/low-code solutions and large language models – you don’t need to be an expert already.
  • Produce relevant and insightful findings through quantitative and qualitative data analysis to assess the effectiveness of ongoing projects and inform programming
  • Innovate ways to improve the systems by which this analysis is conducted, increasing the scale and depth of insights.
  • Present your findings through reporting and presentations in a clear, concise manner that focuses on the ‘so what’ and embraces storytelling to convey data-insights in a compelling fashion.
  • Ensure that findings are regularly shared with delivery teams to support project implementation and learning
  • Coordinate remotely with international data collection partners in various countries to ensure the timely collection and translation of data in accordance with agreed-upon methodologies
  • Ensure the quality of collected data
  • Identify opportunities to improve and innovate the projects’ MREL approaches

Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems and contribute to project and team learning and improvement
  • Arabic and English fluency
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, including experience working across time zones and teams
  • Strong attention to detail

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with software tools for data collection, analysis, and presentation are an advantage (e.g., Kobo, Power BI, advanced Excel)
  • Additional technical skills (statistical analysis, SQL, Python, OSINT) are an asset
  • Academic or professional experience related to strategic communications and conflict or fragile states is an asset

What We Offer
