The Day After (TDA) is a Syrian non-profit organization dedicated to countering authoritarianism and supporting democratic transition in Syria. It adopts the values of human rights in accordance with international conventions and covenants.
OUR VISION
Syrians’ rights, peace, stability, and prosperity can only be achieved through a process of democratic transition and a comprehensive national program for transitional justice that lays the foundation for justice and reconciliation. TDA also believes that local communities and civil society organizations are key actors to bring about resilience, recovery, and democracy for Syria.

OUR GOALS
TDA identifies the following as goals that should guide the efforts of political transition:
– Supporting civil initiatives locally inside Syria and supplying them with knowledge in the areas of justice, human rights, and the political transition from an authoritarian regime to a democratic one.
– Supporting justice and accountability efforts by supporting victims of human rights violations in Syria, especially victims of arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance and displacement, and monitoring patterns of violations and raising awareness of relevant actors and stakeholders.
– Supporting the efforts of the political transition from its position in the Syrian civil society in line with its values and objectives.
– Coordinating the efforts of Syrian civil society in the areas of transitional justice and engaging in the formulation of a political transition.

Job Purpose:
The Communication and Advocacy Manager will lead, develop, and execute TDA’s communications and advocacy strategy. Their role focuses on amplifying TDA’s influence through strategic campaigns, compelling content, and strong relationships with stakeholders, driving the organization’s advocacy goals and enhancing its visibility and credibility on key issues.

Duties and Responsibilities
– Lead and Structure the communication and advocacy team and build the team workflow, and each member’s roles and responsibilities. – Develop TDA’s strategic communications vision, messaging, strategies, and policies on communications and advocacy.
– Oversee the development and implementation of the organization’s advocacy strategy, including the advocacy components of the Results Framework and the organization’s monitoring and evaluation approach.
– Oversee the planning and implementation of various communication products, including, social media, articles, and reports, media briefings, events, and any related material for dissemination with the public, media, and donors.
– Support in the development of funding proposals relating to the organization’s advocacy work and manage grants applicable to identified priority advocacy areas.
– Develop and coach the implementation of communications and advocacy campaigns, events or activities relating to TDA’s output (such as major research, reports, surveys, etc.), tools, and templates in collaboration with management staff and other team members.
– Extract and frame compelling information from TDA’s reports and research to form TDA messages for all communication activities.
– Oversee the coordination with other TDA departments to collect information for the creation of content.
– Maximize the reach and visibility of all communications and advocacy materials across a range of platforms.
– Support the development and continuation of long-term relationships with key advocacy stakeholders, such as international, national, and local media outlets/members and communications and advocacy staff in partner organizations.
– Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to the Communication and Advocacy Officers, ensuring alignment with TDA’s strategic objectives and fostering professional growth within their role.
Requirements:
– A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar senior role within national or international NGOs.
– A relevant academic degree in journalism, communications, political science, public affairs, media, international relations, or a related field.
– Experience in creating and overseeing the production of original content for a variety of audiences.
– Experience pitching to editors and reporters, and in building relationships with regional and international media.
– Proven track record in developing and overseeing the execution of communication strategies across traditional and digital media platforms.
– Excellent understanding of the media landscape, including social media.
– In-depth knowledge of the Syrian context and conflict.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
– Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written).
– Experience in gender equality issues is an asset.
– Resident in Damascus, Syria, with the ability to travel across provinces.
