This course will introduce the international field of human rights education (HRE), including presentations of HRE programming approaches, pedagogical practices and teaching and learning resources. Examples from all regions, including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, will be infused. In addition to learning about the HRE field, participants will be exposed to ‘the basics’ of curriculum design and develop an applied product, for example, the development of lesson plans or a training workshop. The course is intended for educators and trainers working in the formal and nonformal education sectors.
This course involves approximately 25 hours of reading and discussion, assignments, and quizzes over a 6-week period. It also includes three 90-minute live classroom sessions with the course instructor and/or guests scheduled for Thursday, May 15, Thursday, May 29, and Thursday, June 12, from 9:00-10:30am EST.
